| ==================================== Open Records Generator ==================================== Open Records Generator is custom software for database content management developed by O R G inc. It is intended for use in building dynamic, flexible and robust web applications. Open Records Generator is based on extensive experience in designing and programming websites for a wide variety of institutions. There are explicit tradeoffs involved in design, programming and maintenance of a website. The more formalized the design (based on specific visual relationships), the more difficult it will be to maintain. The more specific the programming, the more difficult the site will be to evolve. Finally, the more custom the maintenance solution (html templates, dream-weaver templates, custom databases), the more likely that it will not be adaptable to future needs, resulting in long-term costs or a compromised site. Based on this ongoing set of concerns, O R G developed Open Records Generator around three primary attributes: 1. DESIGNER -- it is Designer software, with all of the particularities that might be attributed to Designer footwear or a Designer rug, for example. 2. OPEN SOURCE -- the Open Records Generator is based on 100% Open Source Software and is distributed under the Open Source GNU Public License. The Open Records Generator database interface uses only PHP and MYSQL open frameworks. The buyer receives full rights to modify and reuse the software for future applications. By using Open Source base solutions, the Open Records Generator will not expire due to quickly changing protocols. 3. LIGHT -- this software is resolutely light. Additional functionality is kept to a puritanical minimum, therefore ensuring that the product can continue to function and evolve as the underlying softwares upgrade. This ensures that the buyer can easily and cleanly modify the software with minimal programming specifics, and minimal labor costs. O R G inc. has designed websites for cultural clients which foreground the issues of robust updating and maintenance. This is a lesson learned when I was the lead designer on the MetroCard Vending Machine interface. Building on the first deployment, economies of scale can facilitate quick and robust database website development. The buyer receives all source code and the complete set of rights described in the GNU Public License. This is appropriate for large-scale websites and complex demands. 2. One-Time Use License : $2500 Open Records Generator can be used for one specific instance, bound by contract. The buyer receives all source code and the complete set of rights described in the GNU Public License. This is appropriate for very small-scale websites of limited use. |
